The film was a huge hit. In 2011, Abhishek Bachchan took on the lead role, and the film became a box office hit as well as a major critical success. In 2013, Yami Gautam was cast alongside Akshay Kumar in another remake titled Dhoom 2 with Sajid-Wajid directing and Anurag Kashyap back on board as the writer. It was a crossover film with the Hindi version Dhoom 2 and the Crossover gave birth to Dhoom 3. On 22 July 2013, Sajid-Wajid confirmed that he will be directing and writing Dhoom 3 and Yami Gautam will be starring in it. It was said that Baadshah will produce it under his Yash Raj Films banner. Akshay Kumar confirmed his return as Jai Dixit in the film too.
